Turn out to be the worst hypocrites on the planet in one way or another often in many ways at once. The scandals that regularly crop up with televangelist, and others who preach the "Prosperity Gospel" are extreme cases in points.

  • Leaving a property to multiple siblings is rarely if ever a good idea; asking for trouble somewhere down the line. But I'd have thought that OP would have tenant's rights and that the entitled family would have had to go through legal channels to evict her, as she'd been living there for a couple of years. It's a pity though that her fiancé hadn't made a will leaving his share of the house to her.

    • My nephew almost tore a chunk of flesh off my back once when he bit me when we were young and I responded by an elbow to the face. His mother straight up slapped me and called me a psycho for hitting a child(she was a druggie and would do the stuff right in front of the kids, and sleep with people....with the door open) well it split a small portion of the family up for a small bit until something worst happened and everyone had to forget about it, but she would constantly call me a drama queen, and poked fun at my sexuality for being feminine when I should be a man. Also you don't need to throw me the pity or sorry. I made the family not like her for a while for recording her getting high in view of the kids and showed the family to show them I wasn't tripping and they took my side to only kick me out of the house when I finally did get comfortable enough to come out(note I was 12 and my nephew was 5) I came out when I turned 16, but when the family got mad at me for it I said that it was the mother of the nephew who bit me put that idea in my head and constantly would talk about it and have so much open sex that I saw more dick than any kid should and that got me thinking n so it would be her fault for it.(they didn't disown her like they did to me, but they did kick her out as well, and took guardianship for the kids due to the drugs until she exposed the families felonies n got the kids taken in general. A huge fuckery that lasted quite a while

He used to always try to fight me to prove that boys were stronger then girls, probably hoping to work his way up to our oldest sister, as I was just the youngest of us older girls. The problem was, I was a tomboy that had no problem throwing down, and our parents weren't going to take his side when he was instigating all of these fights. However, this did result in all of my younger siblings being scared of me and while my brother is better about his sexist mindset, there are still some clear indicators of it in his behavior.

  • This is extremely interesting. Just like story 4. My fiancee committed suicide. We were living with his parents while looking for our own place, the morning after he committed suicide his parents kicked me out onthe streets because they blamed me for his suicide. And I was also was not allowed to take anything that was his. Not his clothes, or even a single picture of him. My own mother was extremely uncaring that this happened,; that off been kicked out and about my fiance's suicide, she said it served me right. She was mad that I had flown all the way out to north Carolina to be with him and she wasnt able to see me as often, but here's the interesting part. My mom and I share this MNthe account I was scrolling through our history trying to find something, when I happen to see this video, so I watched it. It's in our history so my mom watched it, and I bet you dime to dollar that she was sympathetic to the girl in story 4, yet when her daughter was in pretty much the same situation she not only didn't care. But told me it served me right. Mom if you ever read this. I hope you see how two faced your being, and how hurtful you were/are about Lewis and what happenef.. I love you, but plz see the truth

  • Hey, I'm OP of the last story. Just wanted to clarify a few things, if anyone is interested! #1 This MNther made a few minor changes to the story. Seems a bit entitled (irony!) to just change up details of someone else's story like that, but whatev. I'm not upset or anything, just think it's weird because... why? I'm only mentioning it because of a couple comments I saw where people referenced things that didn't actually happen in the real story. But for the most part, this was how it went down. #2 I am a woman. We were not in a homosexual relationship. The "living in sin" was regarding us not being married. They are very religious... his uncle is a pastor and everything. They're also quite old and traditional. #3 I wasn't trying to continue to reside there. I didn't spend a single night there after he died. I honestly would've understood their position a lot more if I had been wanting to live there for any length of time, but I was just there during the day to get stuff and take it to storage and/or back to my mom's house where I was staying. #4 Some of y'all have very incomplete understandings of squatters' rights and common law marriage. In my state, squatters rights start at 15 years, and even then, it's not simple. I actually do live in one of the rare places that recognizes common law, but one of the conditions is that the couple presents themselves as married, which we did not. #5 They definitely had nothing to do with his death. There's someone I do hold partially responsible, but it's none of them. Which brings me to... #6 Part of the reason I didn't pursue further legal action was that I was already looking into what legal options I had in dealing with the hospital where he died. I ended up not following through with anything there, but I sometimes really wish I had. Some of you may have been more tenacious, and I applaud anyone with the will and energy to dig in their heels and fight for their rights. I like to think I advocate well for myself in general, but I know my limits and pick my battles accordingly. It would have been a gruelling legal battle with people I honestly just didn't ever want to see again. There were many factors that I didn't mention that would've complicated things, including the fact that my name was never on anything official. I never received mail there. In hindsight, of course, yes, we could've (and should have) planned for unforeseen circumstances like this, but the bottom line is that we didn't. The year or so before Nick died was a chaotic, very rough time in my life. I was barely keeping my life together, and things like establishing proper residency and making sure our affairs were in order (while they would've been smart considerations) were frankly so far off my radar that I would've just laughed at the suggestion. It's like Maslow's hierarchy: you don't have motivation to work on self-actualization or moving up in your career field if you are not sure you'll be able to find water to keep you alive, and you don't have the motivation to establish residency somewhere when you are in the circumstances I was in at the time. I absolutely don't regret not dragging the whole thing out. Most of you are very kind, and I appreciate your thoughtful words. The few that just think I was dumb or that I was the one that needed to get back in my lane or that you would've handled it differently-- you may be right. But remember that that's a lot easier to say when it wasn't you.

  • If anyone knows OP please pass this info to her. If you are or were in a similar situation, read on. In English Common Law (ECL) there are civil actions called Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress (IIED) and Negligent Infliction of Emotional Distress (NED). All U.S. states (except perhaps Louisiana) and most or all current and former Commonwealth countries have these civil actions available. The requirements vary from place to place, but OP’s ordeal may very well qualify. The time allowed to file a lawsuit also varies; in California, for example, a non-contractual civil lawsuit must generally be filed within three years. If a judge or jury finds IIED occurred, punitive damages may be added to actual damages. Actual damages include not just property losses, but mental or physical health treatments resulting from the torts of the bad actors.

Basically the house and land went to his relatives, but she would be allowed to live in the house as if she owned it until she died. It was a farm house in the middle of no where, so when her health declined she went (voluntarily) into a nursing home and allowed the family to take over the estate early. She passed a few years later in her...early 90's I believe. I was 17 at the time. I gotta say, hearing your grandmother call someone 'mom' is a weird feeling. (weird but good of course)

We bought our own food and paid for everything we used including some things to make ggma more comfortable. When the time came and she passed all of her kids came over and before she was even buried partied and drank. They talked trash about my family and even took things that was willed to my family or that we bought since it was mixed in with everything. We were told that we had to be out in 3 months I was 12 at the time with 4 brothers the last of which was born 5 days before ggma died. My family has always been poorer than most thats not from a lack of trying. My dad for most of my life worked 3 jobs and was never home. He never really ate anything either. Anyway they did not even end up selling the house one of kids moved in.

    • Hey, I'm the OP of the last story. I just wanted to say sorry you went through something so similar. I don't think people that haven't experienced it can ever truly understand. It was so surreal... I mean, after that kind of loss you're just in this daze for a while anyway, trying to get your mind used to the idea that someone you love is just GONE. So to add to that the experience of seeing relatives of that person (and of you, in your case) react in a way that is so diametrically opposite to what you are feeling... it's hard to put into words. I hope you and your family are doing well now. ♥

I'd then take a few family heirlooms, place them on a towel, tie a rope to the end of the towel, grab every breakable thing I could get stack them up as high as I could, then rig the door so when the assholes open it, the towl gets pulled and it all comes crashing down. I'd also put sigar in the vents, along with birdseed to attract ants, mice and rats. Id get roaches and any bedbug covered furniture I could and put them in every room. I figure if they didn't respect my late fiance or me, then they don't deserve to get the house without repercussions.

    • And...if I was OPs mom, as soon as aunt got in my face, I'd be telling her, alright. NOW we can make this a fight. Go get an fing eviction notice, dog. We aren't budging. Call the cops. But don't expect results as my daughters residence has been established for years, and unlike her, I DO know her rights. For real id be playing dirty at that point.

  • Story 2: I would've laid into the uncle if I was her parent, and also would've gladly accepted being banned until uncle grew the hell up and didn't let his kid assault others. Basically, sure! Ill stay the hell away! Why the hell would I want to not only put myself near such a neglectful bad parent, but subject my kid to that kind of person as well? Get stuffed uncle! You're a crappy person and lucky no one called cps on your neglectful entitled arse!

  • For the lady who was staying in the house and the family wandered her out didn't you know that they legally can't make you leave without evicting you you could stay there from 6 months to a year to year and a half completely rent-free not paying anything until they get the eviction people do it all the time I would have settled down and got real f****** comfortable and I would have changed the locks and every time they would have even come to the house I would have called the cops on them cuz they are the ones that have no right to be there you were a resident in that house just because your boyfriend died doesn't mean you lose your residency they still had to go through the courts to evict you and then they would have had to have made you a cash offer to get you out early probably enough money for you to pay a rented place for 6 months to a year you should have gone with that

  • If you hit me with a bat, be sure to get a dose of own medicine as well. EDIT : i signed a paper that if i ever had an accident very badly or just died naturely that i have a DNR and that they can take whatever left that's still good to help other people, be it blood, plasma, organs, whatever they can salvage from me. Not like i'm gonna need it then XD

  • The entitled uncle, and cousin, I dealt with that my whole life and the last one where the fiance is being harassed by the family, the minute dad died, family called, and harassed me, saying I'm not his child all sorts of shit....

  • Very clear legal distinction between fiancé and husband... unless they were common law married, but I doubt it with the ages she stated.

  • That last story is really really really almost like my about my grandparents house in Toronto that my grandfather work hard like 4 jobs just to keep a roof over my dad's and his sister head when my grandparents passed ( grandfather 2001 - grandmother 2009 ) my aunt wanted th house for herself ..... Long story short she didn't get her way

  • Would have been a nice edit if you told about all your terminal mothers stuff your aunt was using"I.e., car and house taken from her as all in the will was left to you.

  • I thought that a near relative could override a person’s DNR order? Anyone know here?

  • Last Story: Not only is OP not the AH, but the cousins were legally in the wrong. At least, OP is a tenant and they would have had to formally evict her to legally force her out of the house if OP didn't just go with what they said. At most, OP inherited her husband's shares, giving her a certain amount of right to the house. If the latter's true and if OP could afford it, I'd recommend she sue the cousins, as she was a percentage owner paying more than her percentage of the upkeep fees and she should demand that either the cousins compensate her for their percentage of the upkeep costs or they state that the house was 100% OP's and her husbands.

  • For story 4 I know In most states if you live in a house long enough it becomes yours and plus if you can prove that your paying taxes on it by court. Also I don’t believe the police would just arrest someone just because the other family members that don’t live on the property say so. I’m pretty sure they would say it’s a civil matter.
